The Snow Came

It's been a busy two days. I guess that happens when yet another friend comes to Jackson to join in the fun. There was a later start to the day, awaiting the arrival of friend Claire for breakfast before skiing. We cooked up a storm, making some pancakes, bacon, eggs, OJ, etc. Claire's friends Rachel and Lucile also showed up. After eating we went to the hill to get a few hours of skiing, which was made better because the snow started to fall.

As I briefly mentioned yesterday, the apres-ski scene centered around the Gelande Quaffing World Championships. Check out the pictures here. If you didn't know, Quaffing was inventing at Jackson Hole and it entails sliding a beer down a table to a team mate who must catch the mug off the end and chug the drink. This continues in relay form for a given time period. I'm not quick sure on all the point systems, but you get more points the better the technique - i.e. one handed catches, lost of beer, under the leg, etc. Needless to say, the falling snow, the fun atmosphere and the flowing beer made for a unique and entertaining post ski day event.

The group went home to their respective homes to shower and clean up before dinner and activities. We ate a good meal at the local brew pup (Snake River Brewing Co.) before heading to "Whisky Wednesdays." Staying out late last night led to a slow morning. Unfortuate because there was 9 inches of new snow on the ground. By the time we arrived at the mountain there was still plenty of fluff to ski.

Today was something that hasn't happened in a while, skiing new snow. We stayed over on Casper lift most of the day. Since Casper is old school and slow, the vertical feet does not do justice to the quality of the snow and skiing. By the end of the day my skis were telling me to head directly to the shop and get a sharpen/wax. It felt like I had sandpaper on my feet. When we called it quits for the day we headed to the Moose for the requisite PBR.

Now here I am, catching up household duties, eating dinner and hitting the books. Hopefully the snow stays soft for tomorrow.
