Women's rights, museums and leftovers

The day started as a lazy one, sleeping in to recover from yesterdays
travels. I love the European breakfast, cheese on a piece of bread,
some fruit, tea and maybe a boiled egg. So civilized.
Our first scheduled activity was to head over to the Peace Palace and
attend a conference on women in Afghanistan and their suffrage. The
speakers were longer than expected but the material is very
interesting and just one piece in a very commicated situation in that
region of the world.

Since we were already out and about, the next stop was to check out
the panorama Mesdag. This is a fascinating museum that was created in
1880 for a panorama painting of the area at the time. You walk up into
what seems like an observation deck, to be staring at a 360 degree
view of life 130 years ago. Because you can't see the edges of the
canvas, and the painting is so detailed, you could swear it was real.
Just imagine going to the top of the Handock building and walking
around, instead the whole thing is a painting AND it was created over
100 years ago. It was worth the €6 to say the least.

Our next stop was to the MC Escher museum, a truely unique experience.
If you don't recognize the name, you've probably seen this Dutch
artist's work and not known it. He's masterful with illusion,
tessellation, metamorphasis and other amazing techniques. My personal
favorites include the endless waterfall and "Ascending and Descending".
We walked home after that where we relaxed until dinner was served
around 8. On the menu...none other than thanksgving leftovers. As
usual, they taste just as good on day two as day one. And we still
have more for day three, yum.

That's all today. I have no idea what our plans are the rest of the
week, but I'm sure we'll think of something :)
