I just finished this interesting look at our country's geography and history. If you ever wondered why your state has the boundaries it does, read this book (or just read the chapter). I learned many things, and got a glimpse of the thought process during different time periods. While the book is not long by standards (300pgs), it does feel to drag on a bit. Since many states have a similar background to their borders (think West VA and VA, or North/South Dakota), they could be combined into one chapter. In any event, I would suggest this read to any history, geography or general interest buff.
